Special guest John Mark Clubb
Thursday
11/29/2012
8pm EST, 5pm PAC

recommended show
Tonight's special guest is John Mark Clubb from New York City, child abuse survivor, activist, speaker and author. As a boy growing up in Louisville, Kentucky, he endured years of abuse by his parents. John tried to find refuge in the regimentation of a distinguished 22 year military career and in multiple marriages. But his efforts to deal with the trauma of his experiences led him on a self-destructive path that left a trail of broken people and dreams. He now works as a commercial pilot for a major airline. In 2009, Mr. Clubb published "Boys Cry Too," a seminal account of his sexual abuse by his father, a former Baptist minister, and the physical abuse by his mother. In the book he chronicles his hidden pain, negative echoes, self defeating behaviors, multiple negative relationships with both men and women and finally the healing journey which lead him to the place where he was able to say, "I forgive you," to his abusers. In doing so he freed himself of the chains of his father’s crimes against him. In his off time from flying airplanes, John Mark Clubb (www.JohnMarkClubb.com) is an author, business owner, screenwriter, short story teller, playwright, competitive rower and father. His favorite expression is, "Abuse does not have to be a life sentence."

Special guest Barbara Ochoa
Friday
11/23/2012
8pm EST, 5pm PAC

recommended show
Tonight's special guest is Barbara Ochoa (aka Petra Luna) from San Francisco, who'll be with us to talk about the special events concerning Male Abuse Awareness Week, Dec 1-8, which will launch with a Saturday night Big Benefit Concert Event in Van Nuys, CA (Dec 1st). NAASCA founder, Bill Murray, will once again participate in this event. The abuse and neglect of children is a terrible tragedy, and the effects on the lives of children, the adults they become and their families, friends and coworkers can be profound. Males abused as children suffer some unique harms and face special challenges to healing. Because boys and young men are told by society that they must be strong and brave, they feel guilty and ashamed about having been abused, dominated and vulnerable. Male victims are much less likely to tell anyone what happened to them, let alone to seek professional help to deal with their hurt and go down a path of healing. Some get lost in self-destructive behaviors, seeking refuge in alcohol and drug addictions, sexual addictions, self-mutilation and even suicide. The Petra Luna www.Help4Guys.org web site explains these stigmas and stereotypes, and offers ongoing assistence.

One can always find the benefit in traumas. It may be in the form of someone you meet to reach out a helping hand or an awakening you experience that before went unrecognized. Your path of life will undergo many changes. Recognize them. Accept them. A new direction may be all you need." Special guest Dan Hays
Thursday
10/11/2012
8pm EST, 5pm PAC

recommended show
Tonight's special guest is Dan Hays from Texas, abuse and PTSD survivor and author of "Freedom's Just Another Word." Dan was diagnosed with chronic and severe Post Traumatic Stress Disorder from two incidents in his childhood, only remembered when he was an adult. In 1987, as his life was spinning out of control, Dan was trying to put together pieces of his past, to remember some piece of his past that struggled to come to the surface. He was broke, unable to go look for a job, at times suicidal and mystified by it all. After years of struggle with PTSD symptoms, Dan remembered a violent incident with his alcoholic father when he was 17. Dan's book describes the steps he took, out of desperation, to try to make sense of his life. As he revealed old wounds and began to heal them, he was able to embrace the journey toward forgiveness of his father. In 2003 Dan began to remember events when he was eight years old, when his grandmother threatened to have him locked up in an insane asylum if he became a writer. This led to a substantial writer's block and was the second source of his PTSD. Dan is working on his second book, to be entitled "Healing the Writer," which describes his healing process from the abuse by his grandmother, through a number of inner child exercises, therapy and using other healing tools. The book will describe how he has reclaimed his writing gift, and now works as a freelance writer.

Tonight's special guest, Lee Ann Mead, abused from four to sixteen years old by her step father, is a survivor from Oregon. She's the founder and president of "Sparks of Hope." Their Mission is to empower children who are survivors of physical or sexual abuse to thrive by providing special services to encourage hope, and by creating opportunities that will develop trust and healing so they can achieve life-long success. Lee Ann says, "To accomplish our mission we grant wishes to these children. Abused children usually only wish for the simplest gifts, such as a new pair of shoes, musical instruments, lessons, a birthday party. The simple things we take for granted they never have had the opportunity to experience." She continues, "To encourage continued healing and success, we will offer mentoring and camps to teach them to go from victim to survivor, survivor to thriver, and from thriver to warrior. These life skills will allow them to someday be mentors themselves." According to a recent OregonLive article: The kids will attend a week-long girls or boys summer camp for three years in a row. The first camp will focus on taking the kids from the "victim" mentality to "survivor." The second will push kids past the anger to become a "thriver," and in the third and final camp, kids will become mentors. Mead says "Sparks of Hope" is collaborating with child psychologists, counselors and attorneys to create a safe and effective camp model. They hope to start the camps in summer 2013.

recommended show
Tonight's special guest is Evan Katz, M.C., LPC, MAC, from Georgia, an abuse survivor, counselor, speaker and author, who's often known as "The Anger Guy." His book, "Inside the Mind of an Angry Man" gives us a look into a mind that's often in intense turmoil, and shows us the way out. Evan explains, "I grew up in a world of chaos. My father was an angry, aggressive alcoholic lawyer who used his brains and power to bully and brow beat my family into fear, darkness and submission. My mother divorced my father when I was five, but by then it was too late. As my [younger] brother said, 'You had to live with him. I didn't.' By the age of seven I had concluded that I was not worth loving–that I was no good." The angry man is typically described as abusive - emotionally, verbally and sometimes even physically. He rages like a hurricane, hurting those closest to him .. completely unaware that his anger is fueled by intense and painful feelings, including: shame, self-hatred, fear of failure, loneliness and rejection. If you're an angry man, or if you feel hurt and mistreated by one, this book will open doors of understanding to help you bring peace to your life and your home.

Specal guest Karen Spears Zacharias
Monday
9/17/2012
8pm EST, 5pm PAC

recommended show
Tonight's special guest is Karen Spears Zacharias from Washington State, investigative journalist and author whose most recent work, "A Silence of Mockingbirds; The Memoir of a Murder," follows the case of young Karly Sheehan. The author recounts the community's failures to save Karly, whose daycare teacher is the first to notice signs of abuse -- Karly's missing hair, bruises, and change in mood -- and calls the authorities. In a sad error of shortsightedness, they target Karly's biological father as the primary suspect. This mistake leads them to overlook Shawn Field, her mother's live-in boyfriend, as the potential abuser. The tragedy led to what is known in the state of Oregon as “Karly's Law.” It mandates that children who exhibit suspicious physical injuries leading to a child abuse investigation must have photos of those injuries reviewed by a designated medical professional within the first 48 hours of that report. The book is not just the story of a horrible crime committed by someone who seems likely mentally unbalanced if not outright evil, but also of how the crime could have been avoided and a child saved from a brutal tortuous death.

Tonight's special guest is Deloris E. Jordan from Philadelphia, older sister of NBA superstar Michael Jordan, abuse survivor, author of "In My Family's Shadow" and founder of the non profit "Lets Start A Conversation." According to Ms. Jordan: "Please understand that sexual molestation brutally violates a child's mind, destroying all traces of innocence. And more often than not, it takes with it their security and self-worth while imprisoning them in a painful world of silence and guilt." She goes on, "When I finally found the courage to let my father's deeds tumble from my lips, I did not know what to expect, but I never in a million years would have guessed that my mother would turn on me. Her words of betrayals did far more damage to me than my father's deeds. They spoke volumes to the fact that she really did not care about me, which my father obviously knew. It is because she was so expressive with her dislike for me that probably made my father know he could get away with violating me."

Keep in mind that the recovery journey often becomes very messy before the individual is able to overcome all the negative emotions involved. I have purposely written the book this way so that those walking through the recovery process may draw comfort from knowing that someone has walked this path before them and felt the same emotions that they are presently battling with." She continues, "Face your fears, work at recovering, never, never give up and you too can overcome the shadows of unwanted emotions."

As Vale says, "At first, it's really nerve-wracking to tell people, because it's a really big secret and you keep it for a while. But, the more that you talk about it and the more relaxed you feel, especially if it's someone who you trust." Vale's parents became especially alarmed when they discovered he'd turned to "cutting" as a way of dealing with his pain. His mom, herself a child abuse survivor, now writes a BLOG where she explains, "I wanted to put something out there for other moms who discover that their wonderful, beautiful sons are using their forearms to carve out their pain. When facing a dark and frightening battle, there is nothing more assuring than knowing that we're not facing it alone. It's my hope that by writing about us, our joys and our struggles, another parent, or friend, or family is encouraged."

Tonight's special guest is James Allen from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, one-time US Congressional candidate and author of a just-released book, "The Forgotten Child - by Jim Allen, father of abducted son" (www.forgottonchild.us). An electrical contractor for 20 years, Jim's son was abducted (illegally retained) in Colombia, South America. Jim found very quickly our government's inability and unwillingness to step in and step up for his son, a United States citizen, and get him returned to the United States. Jim also found that politics and diplomacy were put before the peoples interest and protection. Jim Allen says, "I am the father of an abducted child. I ran for Congress in NC to take back the Constitution for your child and mine. The Sixth district in NC has been a rudderless ship in a sea of confusion for years, I'd hoped to captain this ship back to the land of jobs, fair play, hope, and the constitution. I am also a member of action for abducted children." Jim lost his bid for a US Congressional seat in the 4th District of North Carolina by only 200 votes. The only thing that has been preserved in Jim's fight for justice has been his self respect, and his respect for others. In his struggles for justice, he has met many people that have been placed below and behind by the ones elected to serve us.

Tonight's special guest is Annie O'Sullivan from Oregon, child abuse survivor, author and advocate for adult survivors of child sexual abuse. Annie says she's, "Advocating for adults who have survived childhoods of sexual abuse, be it violent or not, [and] have a need to be validated, recognized and heard. How frustrating to have lived a life so colored by abuse that one is not allowed to discuss it in polite company. How sad to be careful not to offend someone with who you really are, when the trurely offensive individual is likely lurking around happily." Her book, "Can You Hear Me Now?" is a collection of short stories built around art therapy, old photos, and the memories of a child. It drops you into the mind of the child as she tells her shocking story from a very different and important point of view; hers. The reader is taken on an intimate life journey through the eyes of this child’s confusion, misunderstanding, will to persevere, and seek goodness in the world. It’s the true story of careening through her life with her dysfunctional family as she experiences violence and abuse without a compass, to ultimately, against all odds, prosper. It is also the story of the toll taken 50 years later on the body, caused by mental and physical abuse. This is not your typical survivor story. You won't be able to put it down. “Can You Hear Me Now” is the voice of a child you as you have never heard it before.

Tonight's special guest is Cynthia Bland, a child abuse survivor from Ottawa, founder of the Canadian organization "Voice Found" (www.voicefound.ca). Voice Found was born from a place of deep depression and a desire to help others who may be feeling similarly. After holding onto a secret for about 42 years, a question posed by a therapist opened the floodgates. That one question started the founder on a journey during which she felt compelled to share so that others could find some solidarity and support and know that they are not alone. That question was quite simple but had never been asked before. The question was: “Were you sexually abused as a child?” It was not at that moment that the organization formed, but it was at that moment that Cynthia's voice was found. Now she asks a number of "What if?" questions: What if there was a way to help other survivors feel worthy and whole? -- What if colleagues and employers could help survivors in active recovery? -- What if funds could be found to provide self-care programs for survivors? -- What if there was a way to help society understand the effects of childhood sexual abuse on its adult survivors? -- What if people understood that the often the root cause of drug abuse, promiscuity, teenage pregnancy, alcoholism, perfectionism is a result of childhood sexual abuse? -- What if there was a way to PREVENT the sexual abuse of children? -- What if we could get people to TALK about this taboo subject?

In her book, children travel with a pair of friendly fish as they learn about what parts of our bodies we share with others, and learn what the boundaries of appropriate touching are in a very non-threatening way. Ms Federico is concerned that the many misconceptions and misunderstandings about the issues of child abuse need to be dispelled through honest and frank conversations with children, adolescents and adults. Her second book, "Anger is OKAY Violence is NOT," was published recently. Children enjoy learning important information from a pair of fish. Parents marvel at the simple straightforward language and use of sea creatures that create this message all children must hear. For more info, please see the web site: www.JulieFederico.com

Tonight's special guest is Jim Heaney from Chicago, survivor and author of "Divine Child: Evil vs the Angels of Stoney Island," a story about child abuse and children abuse healing. Jim says, "When your own family doesn't work out, pay attention. There's probably someone else to help you grow up." For Jim Heaney, it was the angels of Stony Island. After being molested by a neighbor, ten-year old Jimmy is abandoned by the people who should be protecting him. His grades and behavior plummet, and he starts drinking. But there are still bright spots in his life in Chicago's Stony Island neighborhood including baseball down by the railroad tracks, and his parish school. The priest and teachers at St. Ailbes can't fix his family, but they still manage to give the desperate boy the help he needs to survive. Survival is not recovery however. The dark legacy of Jim's sexual abuse continues to haunt his adult life. He narrowly escapes prison, and although he quits drinking, unresolved anger threatens to destroy every good relationship in his life. "Divine Child: Evil vs. The Angels of Stony Island" tells how young Jimmy built on compassion first experienced in Stony Island to climb from despair to recovery. He shares his story in the hope that it will give other survivors of child abuse the tools to make new life for themselves. A child abuse author and speaker, Jim has spoken about child abuse and memory healing in the context of his recovery from the after-effects of sexual abuse and addiction issues to thousands of adults and young people at conferences throughout North America.

Tonight's special guest is Dr. Janet Rosenzweig, author of " The Sex-Wise Parent: The Parent's Guide to Protecting Your Children, Strengthening Your Family, and Talking to Your Kids about Sex, Abuse and Bullying." Dr. Rosenzeig writes, "Abusers count on the fact that kids don't like to speak to their parents about sex, and you don't want that to be true on your family. So use the news — with the Sandusky trial starting in a few weeks and on-going clergy trials in many major media markets, there will be plenty of opportunity!" She says to use this as an opportunity to tell your kids that people who sexually abuse children put their own pleasure above the pain they cause children. Remind them that sometimes they dress it up like a friendship or a love relationship to confuse the child (or teen!). Remind them that anyone who wants to be sexual with a young person is selfish at best and a criminal at worse. Dr. Rosenzweig's credentials as a sex educator led to a position with one of the first sex abuse projects in the U.S. more than three decades ago. Her experience as a caseworker, help-line counselor, professor, researcher, author, public official, child-abuse prevention specialist and mother inspired the creation of a resource so that parents can do what public systems cannot — ensure the sexual health and safety of their children and family. An inspirational speaker and teacher, Dr. Rosenzweig is devoted to reaching professionals and parents everywhere with the advice and techniques they need to raise sexually safe and healthy kids.

Rachel brings to the table a passionate belief that her clients do not have to remain trapped or confronted daily by the thoughts or behaviors that result from abuse. Through her own journey of recovery from sexual abuse, she has also gained insight and understanding about what it takes to overcome trauma. This makes it possible for her to relate to and appreciate her clients' struggles intimately. Based on her desire to foster community, intimacy, and connection, Rachel has dedicated much of her time to understanding relationships and communication. She developed her Trauma Recovery & Relationship coaching programs based on her educational training and lessons learned from her own journey. Clients learn to identify and break the patterns of thought and behavior that keep them from recovering from past abuse or making changes in their relationships. Tonight's special guest, Larry Fike (M. Phil.) from Joshua Tree, CA, describes himself as a philosophical counselor and says, "excellence is normal." The author of "Piker" and two other books, Mr Fike explains, "Medical doctors are trained to focus on the care of the body. Clerics, on the care of the soul." He goes on, "Philosophers, on the care of the mind. Which is most important is disputable, as all things are. But it is the vocation of the philosopher, as thinker, to consider all parts of what it is to be human, since the judgments arrived at in the other two domains depend upon the ideas that are accepted, rejected, or left in abeyance. Ideas are the domain in which the philosopher lives and gives." The goal of Larry's philosophical counseling services is not to provide assistance to those who have drug addictions, need medication, or struggle with medical mental health issues. Rather, it is to assist those who may be struggling with rationally-based issues that don't strike clients as having a clear solution. For example, those who may be struggling over whether or not to pursue a certain career, whether or not to wed, or whether or not to relocate - among many similar issues - are all welcome.

Even so, this did not save her from other abuses: she witnessed incidents of violence, incest and other horrible, unthinkable acts. One hot summer day in 1997, Michelle writes, she "was introduced to the Lord and denounced Satan," thus beginning the process of giving her life to the Lord. After two years of demonic attacks, she was fully delivered and never looked back. Today she lives for the Lord. Ms Bless says her firsthand knowledge of how low a life can plummet to the depths of despair enables her to understand and relate to what others are facing as they struggle to find God in their lives. Tonight's special guest is Sue Julsen from Nevada, a survivor and thriver and author of "Bitter Memories." Largely autobiographical, Ms Julsen has chosen to use fictional names so as to protect some of those in the story from the horrors that actually occurred. Abducted by her father when she was three, the book's main character, Sarah, found herself in a world of criminal neglect and unfathomable oppression as her father and stepmother perpetrated more and more horrible acts of verbal, mental and sexual abuse on the innocent girl. So continually terrified was Sarah, that she began to form separate personalities so that she herself did not have to face the hideous reality of her day to day life. Only through the nightmare pictures that the other personalities sometimes presented to her while she slept did Sarah have any hint about the horrific abuse she was being subjected to. The personalities would block out time for Sarah and bear the horror of the experiences themselves so that their dear Sarah would not have to. This tale of the author's early life, a life on the run, featuring starvation, fear and molestation, is a truly unnerving and gripping account of the extremes of neglect and mistreatment a child can undergo. "Bitter Memories" is dedicated to all adult survivors of abuse and is written with the hope that exposing these horrors will help to prevent them from happening to others. "Trophy Murders" is the fictionalized sequel to her first book, and she is currently working on the third book in this series.

Lorena's story is about her triumphant struggle of survival and healing! Her mother was nineteen, and her father was twenty, when she was born, and shortly after her birth her father enlisted in the Marines, and her mother went to Virginia to work. Her grandmother became her mother image for four years, and gave her the stability of a strong Christian foundation. After a highly successful career as a business woman, Noe's goals now are to help children and adults who are victims of child abuse. Lorena hopes that as a survivor, she can now get the public to see the private struggle anyone can fall victim to. Ms Noe writes, "Child abuse is more than bruises and broken bones. While physical abuse might be the most visible sign, other types of abuse, such as emotional abuse or child neglect, also leave deep, long lasting scars. A history of a childhood abuse is not a life sentence. There is hope, healing, and a chance to recover the self lost in childhood." Drawing on her own experience as a survivor of emotional neglect, Lorena Noe demonstrates that through healing she can help lead you through grieving your lost childhood, to become your own parent, and integrate the healing aspects of spiritual, physical, and emotional recovery into your adult life.

A self-described "computer nerd," Justin was excited to get an inexpensive webcam. He had no idea that his new friends were adults — an online community of pedophiles discussing strategy, sharing advice and carefully planning his seduction. By age 16, Justin's young face had become extremely popular among Internet pedophiles. Fans began asking to meet him in person. At first Justin enjoyed his website's financial success, but he began using drugs and found his life spiraling out of control. At the end of Harmon’s presentation, she has all the students stand up and make a pledge, “I am a strong student. I'm a leader. I will treat others with respect. I refuse to bully others and I promise to tell an adult when I see bullying. I refuse to watch, I refuse to laugh, I refuse to join in. I will be a good role model, I will not make others feel bad. Join us from a LIVE EVENT (an hour earlier than normal) as our founder, Bill Murray, hosts the gathering of dignitaries and special guests in Sacramento for the Army of Angeles launch of April as National Child Abuse Awareness month. Our usual cast of co-hosts and panelists will join in to hear all about the festivities featuring Kathleen Moore, event coordinator, Marc Klaas, Pat Brown, Kaine Horman, Robin Sax and many of the other advocates involved. April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month, a time set aside to focus specifically on preventing child abuse / neglect within our communities. Specifically by fostering education and collaborations which facilitate the type of awareness required to prevent criminal conduct against the youngest and most vulnerable members of society. With crimes against children on the rise we have a moral obligation to focus upon this serious issue and take action which works against predators and all whom lack the ability or insight to properly protect children in their care. Our LA Community Policing and National Association of Adult Survivors of Child Abuse sister efforts (www.LACP.org & www.NAASCA.org) are proud to partner with activists from the Greater Sacramento region in hosting this 50 state kick off, featuring opening ceremonies Sunday April 1st collectively pulling people and resources together which will call significant attention to this important cause.

Tonight's special guest is Don Dymer of Florida, representing "The Diana Screen" from Single Source Services. The Diana Screen is an innovation far beyond criminal background checks. It is an easy to use, risk management tool that will help you keep your agency's children safe from sexual abuse. Behind The Diana Screen are 18 years of research, 6 NIMH grants, and 2 pilot studies with the Episcopal Church Pension Fund and The Boys & Girls Clubs of America. The Diana Screen reduces the risk that your group's children will be molested and reduces the risk that your group will face sexual misconduct lawsuits. Named after a little girl who grew up in foster care yet was sexually abused by a caregiver, a man whose actions went unsuspected for over 30 years. Despite the love of her adoptive parents, Diana and her family suffered a final tragedy when she ended her own life. In honor of Diana, and those who have survived child sexual abuse, the screen designed to protect children is named The Diana Screen. Most victims of childhood sexual abuse never report their abuse. Their abusers are never charged and are employed or volunteer and continue their reign of terror on the children, in the work or volunteer environment you are providing. The Diana Screen helps stop a pedophile from gaining access to children within those organizations that use the tool.

In his words, "The KlaasKids Foundation was established in 1994 to give meaning to the death of my twelve-year-old daughter kidnap and murder victim Polly Hannah Klaas and to create a legacy in her name that would be protective of children for generations to come. Conceived with an initial investment of $2,000 the Foundation's mission is to stop crimes against children. America's continued evolution is predicated on the unspoken promise of past generations that we will give our children a better world than was given to us."

Tonight's SPECIAL GUEST is Drew Carillio, survivor and actor. One of today's most passionate activists when it comes to the horrors, the shame and the preventative steps we can all take when it comes to sexual abuse, is aspiring actor and model, Drew Carrillo. Many know Carrillo for his role in the movie "Vampires Suck," in which he played the part of a cast member of "Jersey Shore." He also has been featured in many popular television advertisements, the most recent being the "NERF or Nothing" toy campaign. In an interview with San Diego Gay & Lesbian News, Drew who is now openly gay, tells his "backstory" .. that he was raped at the age of 16 while a dedicated member of a prominent movement called Teen Mania Ministries. Coming to terms with one's sexuality can be very dramatic and tough due to gender societal parameters. To make matters worse for Drew and other young followers like him, Teen Mania Ministries spends millions of dollars on educational materials telling members of the church that homosexual men are, in fact, often that way because they were raped. Drew was featured on the Dr Phil Show in 2005.

Tonight's SPECIAL GUEST is Jason Lee of Atlanta, a survivor of childhood sexual abuse he experienced while a Boy Scout. He was recently involved in a campaign to keep his abuser from getting parole. In 1995, Lee's abuser, Don Corley pled guilty to multiple counts as a child molester. He was sentenced to 30 years in jail. He came up for parole on January 31, 2012, but was denied, largely because of outstanding public support garnered in par through the web site www.30is30.com where the idea's presented that Don Corley should serve his full sentence. "30 years is 30 years" says the site. Readers will some enlightening encounter quotes from an interview with Mr Corley that show the mind of a child molester, including "“There was still that longing, that need,” how he'd “target” boys to become their “special friend.” He goes on to admit “There's nothing to cure this behavior” and about his "Dark Side" and how he's "a parents worst nightmare." Also included on the web site is the testimony of one of Mr Corley's victims, who writes, "From 1986 to 1992 I was molested by a man who most thought was a “pillar of our community” .. a leader in my Boy Scouts troop, a leader in my church. He had everyone fooled." And he goes on, "I think there are two kinds of child molesters. One is the trench-coat-wearing, playground-stalking, child-stealing kind of person. He's quick and violent. The other kind is the serial molester – he embeds himself in the community, wins the trust of families and children, and abuses that position of power to commit the molestation. Don Corley is the second type."

Tonight's SPECIAL GUEST is Susan Saufoa-Dinino, of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, the founder of "Speaking Out Against Child Sexual Abuse, Inc" (www.speakingout-csa.com). In 2000, Susan was faced with a very real issue in which she was unfamiliar .. the horrifying truth and reality of child sexual abuse (CSA).  As with most people, she was naïve and uneducated on this topic, so she began to research the horrific crime. What she found was so disturbing that she had never felt so helpless. "Since that time," she writes, "I have been trying to figure out a way to help children who are Sexually Abused. Every single day across America, countless numbers of children are sexually violated. And there are so many obstacles to overcome in order to help just one child, much less the multitudes of Sexually Abused children. The task seemed impossible once I read the statistics and learned about the failures of the systems in place that are supposed to protect children. The truth is that we live in a fallen world in which many children are robbed of their innocence by Sexual Predators.

Tonight's SPECIAL GUEST is Patricia A. McKnight. Ms McKnight (Tricia) is a child abuse survivor, and is author of the recently published "My Justice." She's a talk show host on Blog Talk Radio and an activist with Dreamcatchers for Abused Children. Tricia struggles to overcome the cruelty of her childhood. The man who assaulted her, her stepfather, tortured her for twelve long years, and his torment destroyed everything good in her life for the next thirty years. Her path in life became one of continued violence against her and although she was able to achieve professional success, she could never fully heal from the trauma inside. Tricia was a strong survivor though and continued to push her way through life despite these crimes against her. The recently written review from Peter Thomas Senese says, "Patricia A. McKnight has written a masterpiece novel so well written, so important to society, and so enlightening for others - those who know abuse equally as to those who pursue their dreams and liberties - that her "My Justice" shook the very foundation of who I am and my own interactions in this world, as I asked myself, "Am I doing enough?" Unquestionably, "My Justice" is a Call-To-Arms against abuse and neglect, but it too is a critically important road map, a blue print if you will, for others to learn by in order to break the cycles of abuse often found in a person's life when abuse occurs and is sustained beginning at an early age."

Tonight's SPECIAL GUEST is Nick Bryant. Mr Bryant is author of "The Franklin Scandal" the story of a nationwide pedophile ring that pandered children to a cabal of the rich and powerful. The ring's pimps were a pair of political power brokers who had access to the highest levels of our government. Nebraska legislators nearly exposed the ring in 1990, but its unveiling had the potential to produce seismic political aftershocks. The legislators' efforts resulted in rash of mysterious deaths and the overpowering corruption of federal and local law enforcement, including the FBI, Secret Service, and Justice Department, effecting an immaculate cover-up of the trafficking network. The publisher is donating 50% of the book's proceeds to organizations that assist abused children. Author Nick Bryant writes, "The reality is that many perpetrators are not shady men in dirty, threadbare trench coats living in seedy hotels, but are, in fact, pillars of our community. Until our society addresses these facts and its institutions are willing to face embarrassment, instead of heaping more abuse upon victims, our national shame of rampant child abuse and its cover-up are unlikely to end." In December 1992, she was convicted of first degree murder and armed criminal action. She was sentenced to life in prison without parole in Missouri. In January 2009, Missouri Governor Matt Blunt commuted her sentence. He told her he expected her to make a difference with her life. After 18 years in prison, Stacey's now living in St. Louis. She's telling her story so other women can learn from her mistakes. "I created Healing Sisters to allow other sexual abuse victors (we are victors, after all) the opportunity to experience the bond we share and the restoring powers gained from other people who have also suffered," says Stacey. "I believe that every child, woman and man who suffers from sexual abuse becomes a sister because we share a common bond, one of betrayal and suffering. We need one another in order to thrive, and maybe even to survive. I hope in my lifetime we can eradicate, wipe out, and destroy sexual abuse. That surely cannot to be too lofty of a goal, can it? Tonight's SPECIAL GUEST is Johnna Janis of San Diego. Ms Janis is working with an award winning filmmaker Sergio Myers to produce a documentary based on her life as a survivor of child sexual abuse. "Invisible Scars" is a woman's story of hope, healing, and resiliency. During this inspirational journey, she reveals the invisible scars that have negatively impacted her throughout her life. Like many other women and men, she was abused by people she trusted at various points in her life. At 5 she was traumatized for the first time, ruining her self esteem. In high school she was assaulted again. "Within months, I entered into a relationship with a much older man and dropped out of school," she says. He eventually became the father of her three children, but Johnna spent eleven years emotionally abused and manipulated in the marriage, battling depression, anxiety, fear, and guilt. Recommended show
Tonight's SPECIAL GUEST is Bo Budinsky, of Rhode Island, a survivor of child abuse. Mr Budinsky is a volunteer, activist and public speaker with a focus on how child sexual abuse (CSA) and post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) effects recovery from drugs and alcohol. "My life is the stuff movies are made of," says Bo in a YouTube appearance. He was repeatedly violated by multiple men and women, including by a therapist he went to for help. Addiction, shattered relation ships and failed careers followed. Mr Budinsky has worked hard for many years to get through the dark journey that was his life, and to emerge as a successful example of the miracle that can happen once a person enters into recovery. Bo was also one of the 200 men who appeared on two, hour-long Oprah Winfrey shows in late 2010 by way demonstrating that child sexual abuse isn't only an issue for little girls but that it effects many little boys, too. Now Bo travels around the country, speaking to groups and making appearances whenever he's asked.

Tonight's SPECIAL GUEST is Mike Domitrz, founder and Executive Director of the The Date Safe Project. Over the past decade, more attention is being given to dangerous sexual behavior among our youth and to the crime of sexual assault – mainly due to cases and news stories concerning celebrities, middle schools, high schools, college campuses, and the military. Unfortunately, the public debates arising from such prominent cases often lead to even greater misunderstandings of what consent means; how to teach safer understandings of intimacy to teenagers and young adults; how sexual assault is defined; and how to honor survivors of sexual assault / rape. To help clear-up the various misconceptions about healthy dating, intimacy, consent, sex, respect, sexual assault, and honoring survivors, Mike Domitrz, personally prompted by the rape of his sister, founded The Date Safe Project, Inc. which provides parents, educators, educational institutions, students, military installations, community organizations, state agencies, faith-based institutions, and federal government resources, educational materials, and programming addressing consent, healthy intimacy, sexual education, sexual assault awareness, bystander intervention, and support for sexual assault survivors. Tonight's SPECIAL GUEST is Kimberly Day of Every Child Matters, a coalition that seeks to end child abuse. Centered in Washington, DC, Kim coordinates for the Protect Our Kids Act & Petition, now before the House and Senate, which seeks to create a National Commission on Child Abuse Fatalities. 2,500 American children are killed every year as a result of child abuse and 80 percent of those killed are under the age of four. Almost half are under age one. Ms Day says, "All it takes is a minute of your time to click here and sign the petition asking your member of congress to support this act, then send a letter to your Congressmembers." Much more must be done. The rate of child abuse fatalities continues to rise. An overhaul of the nation's child protection system is long overdue.
